Jamie's House: Sprucing up the place

Over the weekend our neighbor and and a very good girlfriend of mine came over for a little wine and relaxation.  We got to talking decor of course, and found a few really great items that I will be purchasing in the near future to add to to my home collection.

I am still working on the dining room, painting and refinishing inexpensive furniture was the quickest transformation because it was not as tough on our wallets as buying brand new furniture.  Kelly and I are trying our best to save for pieces of furniture we truly love rather than just tossing something in an open space for the sake of filling it.  Now don't get me wrong, if we find the perfect piece and it is not new you can bet we are jumping all over it!  Staring at blank walls and floor space is tough but I know it will be worth it when we are looking at something that we will have for many years to come.  Enough of my jibber jabber, this is what I will be adding to the dining room next:

Pottery Barn Modular Wine Bar in a mahogany stain

Above the wine bar I will be doing shelving, I pretty much took the idea out of the Pottery Barn catalog but I have been swooning over this wall design since the second I saw it months ago.  I know when I love something that long it was meant to be.  This is not really my idea that will be put into motion but isn't copying something or someone the best form of flattery :) It will not be an exact replica but sometime soon you will see my spin on this:

Anthropologie Hibiscus Trellis Curtains (I need to have these this instant)
After these major elements are in place I can start adding pictures and mirrors to the walls (maybe after a year and half I will actually order some wedding pictures to display!).  I have heard the best way to design a room is from the rug up and so far this has been the best plan of action for me.  Stay tuned this week, I have more to come for the front sitting room!

What rooms are you currently decorating or getting ready to tackle?  Any items you are dying to add to your home decor?  I would love to hear about your plans and if you have taking pictures along the way send them over so we can show your amazing transformation!

See you swoon,

  3. Hi Lara! I'm sorry to hijack Jamie's post, but I have the modular wine bar (in white, which they no longer carry) and absolutely love it. We've had it for about 5 years now and it's still going strong. Go for it!
