Happy Hump Day! I cannot believe March is so soon. March! Up today is an update on Owen's bedroom. You may recall that my New Years resolutions included focusing on the kids' rooms. Molly's room is pretty much "done" (at least for now). Now it's time to turn to Owen's space. Here are the space and the plans.
The first thing I did was upgrade him to a full sized bed. He had a twin from the old house, but these bedrooms are absolutely massive, and his twin got dwarfed in the room. Plus, his little sister had a full, and he did not like that Molly's bed was bigger than his. Here is the new bed in place with the bedding I picked up at the Pottery Barn outlet over the Summer (totally planned ahead and bought the full size with two shams). I definitely need something on the windows and keep going back and forth on what it should be: long panels and move the bed over? short panels? a valence? an upholstered pelmet?
Here's another shot of the bed. I ordered green fabric and will make him an upholstered headboard. The cat on the bed is "Blackie" - a rescue from one of those crane toy machines. I also have a white IKEA Ribba shelf, which will go above the headboard (I think ...).
Next up: the dresser wall. I moved the mirror that used to be in my master bedroom in the old house into his space. I'll paint that blue to go with his dresser and other furniture. I need to work on the top of the dresser and figure out what goes on there (that will make sense for a 6 year old boy ... obviously nothing overly styled or perfect). I want to move his little red chair into the playroom once I get around to that space. You'll also notice the basketball hoop on the closet door - this was a Christmas gift from Owen's great-grandmother. He loves it!
And here is the wall with the desk. Over Christmas, I bought him an Expedit from IKEA, which is such a nice addition to the space! It holds plenty of books, toys and pictures, and of course trophies. We have been working on a super cool solar system mobile that we'll hang in the corner. Only two more planets, the moon and Pluto left to go! I need to add art over the desk. I bought him a huge wall map, which I want to frame.
His room is off to a terrific start. I have art to hang and some finishing touches to do, but that will happen soon enough! The big question I need help on: the window treatments. What would you guys do? I truly have no clue.
See you swoon,
